Immunity is a defense system we are born with and it protects against all antigens. Innate immunity involves barriers that keep harmful materials from entering your body. Immunity forms the barrier of first line of defense in the immune response.

Four main components of immunity include effector cells, antimicrobial peptides, soluble mediators, and cell receptors.  Innate immune responses rely on the body's ability to recognize conserved features of pathogens that are not present in the uninfected host.
