C. elegans has proven to be a useful model for understanding apoptosis because C. elegans undergoes a fixed and easy-to-visualize number of apoptotic events during its normal development.

C. elegans or Caenorhabditis elegans is an unsegmented pseudocoelomate which lacks respiratory or circulatory systems. C. elegans is a free-living, harmless nematode that feeds on microorganisms. C. elegans is a kind of species of nematode worm.

Apoptosis is a bio-logical process which plays an important roles in embryogenesis, various diseases and aging. During the process of the apoptosis, a cells undergo a series of morphological and molecular events such as cell shrinkage, blebbing, nuclear DNA fragmentation and proteolysis.
