Placing food on the affected side of the mouth is the intervention which would be contraindicated while caring for this client with dysphagia.

Dysphagia is a term for swallowing difficulties. A few clients with this disorder have difficulty swallowing food and liquids while others can't swallow it at all. Signs of dysphagia are coughing or choking when eating or drinking. bringing food back up, sometimes through the nose.

Swallowing is an act which involves the use and coordination of mouth, pharynx, larynx and esophagus.

This condition is generally caused due to another health condition. A few conditions due to which dysphagia happens are stroke, head injury, multiple sclerosis and conditions which affect the nervous system.
