The part of a civilization developed as people in the fertile crescent began to grow more crops and raise more animals than they needed for themselves The Fertile Crescent's inhabitants were able to produce more food than they could consume and more livestock than they required, so they could exchange these extras with other people. People needed to create laws, preserve records and come up with solutions to deal with their new way of life as trading developed and the population rose.

The Fertile Crescent is a crescent-shaped area in the Middle East that includes the current states of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and Jordan as well as Kuwait's northern section, Turkey's southeast region, and Iran's western sector. Northern Egypt and Cyprus are also mentioned by some authors.

The Euphrates and Tigris rivers, which have provided support to several ancient civilizations, feed a vast geographic region known as the Fertile Crescent that includes modern-day Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Israel, Jordan, and the northernmost part of Egypt. Early settlement along the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers relied heavily on the fertile, silt-rich soil beds for the establishment of agricultural villages. This is how the Fertile Crescent was born.
