You are asked to find the team score, so it is convenient to let a variable represent that value. Let's call it "s", for "score". The problem statement tells you
.. Michaela scored s/5 . . . . . one fifth of the team's points
.. Aleah scored s/10 . . . . . . . one tenth o the team's points
These scores together are (s/5 +s/10) and that amount is 42 points.
.. s/5 +s/10 = 42
.. s(2/10 +1/10) = 42 . . . . . factor out s
.. s(3/10) = 42 . . . . . . . . . . form the sum of the numbers in parentheses
.. s = 42*10/3 = 140 . . . . . multiply by the inverse of the coefficient of s

The team scored 140 points.

______
Michaela scored 140/5 = 28 points; Aleah scored 140/10 = 14 points.

creativ13 [48]

Answer:

p_v =2*P(t_{(35)}

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming this info from R

hist(gifted$count)

##    Min. 1st Qu.  Median    Mean 3rd Qu.    Max.

##   21.00   28.00   31.00   30.69   34.25   39.00

## Sd

## [1] 4.314887

Data given and notation

\bar X=30.69 represent the mean

s=4.3149 represent the sample standard deviation

n=36 sample size

\mu_o =32 represent the value that we want to test

\alpha represent the significance level for the hypothesis test.

t would represent the statistic (variable of interest)

p_v represent the p value for the test (variable of interest)

State the null and alternative hypotheses.

We need to conduct a hypothesis in order to check if the mean is different than 32, the system of hypothesis would be:

Null hypothesis:\mu = 32

Alternative hypothesis:\mu \neq 32

If we analyze the size for the sample is > 30 but we don't know the population deviation so is better apply a t test to compare the actual mean to the reference value, and the statistic is given by:

t=\frac{\bar X-\mu_o}{\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}}}  (1)

t-test: "Is used to compare group means. Is one of the most common tests and is used to determine if the mean is (higher, less or not equal) to an specified value".

Calculate the statistic

We can replace in formula (1) the info given like this:

t=\frac{30.69-32}{\frac{4.3149}{\sqrt{36}}}=-1.822

P-value

The first step is calculate the degrees of freedom, on this case:

df=n-1=36-1=35

Since is a two sided test the p value would be:

p_v =2*P(t_{(35)}

Can someone please explain how the answer is D
Kitty [74]

Step-by-step explanation:

Because the length of ST is calculated using pythagorean theorem:

{c}^{2}  =  {a}^{2}  +  {b}^{2}

Where the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of squares of the other two sides of a right triangle. In this case, the hypotenuse is ST and the other two sides are distances between S and T over the X and Y axis. Those are easily calculated:

x =  |sx - tx|  \\ y =  |sy - ty|

Where x is the distance between S and T over X axis and Y distance over Y axis, sx and tx are X coordinates of S and T, sy and ty are Y coordinates of S and T.

Using that formula, you get that y = 17 and x = 8.

Back to the pythagorean theorem, if we put those number in the formula of the pythagorean theorem, we get something like this:

{c}^{2}  =  {x}^{2}  +  {y}^{2} \\  {c}^{2}  =  {8}^{2}  +  {17}^{2} = 64 + 289  \\  {c}^{2}  = 353 \\ c =  \sqrt{353}

And finally, the correct answer is in fact 353.
