The distinguishing characteristics that the evergreen trees of the boreal forest, or taiga, exhibit is that they are green all year round and their needles are waxy, difficult to decompose.

Humans use the taiga for various purposes, such as using cellulose to be made into paper and building materials.

What is taiga?

It is a biome that is also known as boreal or coniferous forest, which is located in extreme and cold places such as Canada, Japan and Alaska. Some of its important characteristics are related to the adaptation of vegetation to inhospitable climates, remaining green all year round and suitable for being the habitat of migratory animals, such as reindeer.

The ability of the taiga to remain green year-round is due to the structure of the vegetation, as its stems are thicker to withstand cold weather, and its leaves prevent snow from accumulating.

Therefore, like all forests, the taiga must be preserved by absorbing carbon dioxide and thus preventing the spread of climate change and global warming.
