Answer:  Most of the geologists use the acid test means placing a drop of acid on the rocks or minerals which produces bubbles.

This bubbles are made of carbon dioxide. The bubbles that are released shows the presence of carbonate in the substance. The calcite, dolomite are some of the materials that react with hydrochloric acid.

The effervescence produced can be mild or strong depending on the type of mineral.
