The materials John used in his science fair project include the following:

 • Seed
 • Soil
 • Organic fertilizer
 • Chemical fertilizer
 • Water
 • Ruler.

What is a Fertilizer?

This refers to a substance which is added to the soil in other to increase the fertility and is commonly used in agriculture so as to maximize yield and sales by farmers.

The experiment John did was to measure the fertility of the soil after several substances have been added to it through the growth of the plant.

It was discovered that the plant in which chemical fertilizer was added to the soil grew faster than the rest when it was measured by the ruler which therefore makes the materials listed the most appropriate choice.

Several cities have now banned __________, which are a type of fat.
Furkat [3]
The correct answer is "trans fatty acids".

Trans fatty acids (colloquially as trans fats) are a type of unsaturated fatty acids wherein instead having its double bonds in the cis configuration giving the fatty acid "kinks" in the molecules making it more soluble; the double bonds in trans fats are in the trans configuration (hence the name) and this will not give the molecule kinks making it less soluble. Less soluble trans fats are notorious in depositing in peripheral arteries as well as in coronary arteries that increase the risk for developing atherosclerosis.
