Fortunately for the parents whose babies experience it, Colic typically ends by about 3 months of age and seems to leave no ill effects.

Colic is a common problem, occurring in about one out of 10 infants. It occurs equally in baby boys and baby girls, and usually begins within 10 days to three weeks after birth.

The cause of colic is unknown. There are, however, several factors that may play a role, including:

  • Gas (air swallowed while nursing or crying).
  • Reflux (bringing up) of stomach contents.
  • Food allergies.
  • Milk-protein intolerance.
  • Family or caregiver stress.

Colic babies are healthy infants who have recurrent periods of inconsolable crying—without apparent reason. These sometimes occur for hours without stopping. The baby can be difficult to comfort during these stretches of time. These periods of fussiness are not linked to hunger or discomfort, and the babies are otherwise normal. They may appear to be in pain. They might arch their backs, clench their fists, or pull their legs up to their tummies. In addition, the baby's face might turn red after a long period of crying. Although the baby is fussy and cries, he or she continues to eat well and gain weight.

There is no cure for colic, but there are steps you can take to help soothe your baby. Try some or all of the following tips. You will learn which ones work for your baby and which do not.

3. Stage 3 sleep.

4. Stage 1 sleep.

5. Stage 2 sleep.

6. Stage 4 sleep.

7. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

Explanation:

Hypothalamus can be defined as a small portion of the mammalian brain responsible for the secretion of hormones through the stimulation of the pituitary gland.

It is located between the midbrain and the thalamus. Also, hypothalamus is the most inferior portion in the diencephalon of the forebrain.

Basically, hypothalamus is the most important portion of the brain in vertebrates that controls various bodily functions. The functions of the hypothalamus includes;

I. Responding to temperature change.

II. Evoking nausea when a person is anxious.

III. Regulating the release of thyroid stimulating hormone in the body.

IV. Regulating sleep and wakefulness in living organisms.

Sleep can be defined as a biological recurring state in which the mind and body of a living organism is characterized by altered (partial or total) consciousness, lessened sensory and muscular activities, as well as reduced physical interaction with the environment.

Matching the various stages of sleep with their description, we have;

1. Stage 4 sleep: the stage when vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature) reach their lowest normal levels.

2. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep: indicated by movement of the eyes under the lids; dreaming occurs.

3. Stage 3 sleep : theta and delta waves begin to appear.

4. Stage 1 sleep: very easy to awaken; electroencephalogram (EEG) shows alpha waves; may even deny being asleep.

5. Stage 2 sleep: typified by sleep spindles.

6. Stage 4 sleep: the sleep cycle where bed-wetting, night terrors, and sleepwalking may occur.

7. Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep: may allow the brain to work through emotional problems in dream imagery.

melisa1 [442]

“Legalism in the Qin dynasty.

Legalism became the official philosophy of the Qin Dynasty (221 - 206 BCE) when the first emperor of China, Shi Huangdi (r. 221-210 BCE), rose to power and banned all other philosophies as a corrupting influence. ... The excesses of the Qin Dynasty's legalism made the regime very unpopular with the people of the time.

The Legalists advocated government by a system of laws that rigidly prescribed punishments and rewards for specific behaviours. They stressed the direction of all human activity toward the goal of increasing the power of the ruler and the state.

Paul [167]

Answer:

Declaring a law unconstitutional

Explanation:

The role of congress members is to create laws and oversee the executive. In turn, the role of the judiciary is to monitor whether the constitution is being obeyed and, therefore, to analyze the constitutionality of the laws formulated by congressmen. Thus, it is for the supreme court to consider whether the laws are constitutional or exceed the limits imposed by the constitution.
