The functional activities that result in growth and repair of body tissue are called <u>metabolism</u>.

This function consists of two processes that have opposite effects, namely: <u>catabolism</u> and <u>anabolism.</u>

The taking in of food and oxygen and occurs in the anabolism

state which builds up complex

materials from simpler ones. The release of energy and carbon dioxide occurs in the catabolism state which is the breaking down of complex

substances into simpler ones. These functions require a stable, environment, maintaining this internal environment is known as <u>homeostasis</u>

For living organisms to function properly, there is need for a perfect and stable internal environment. These functional activities require a homeostatic role to work effectively

<h3>Metabolism</h3>

In all living organisms be it plants or animals, the complete sum total of all the chemical reactions which occurs in them to ensure the continuity of life processes is known as metabolism.

Let me make it more clearer to you, chemical activities and processes in living organisms such as osmosis, diffusion, turgidity, flaccidity, phagocytosis, homeostasis, cell division, autotrophism, heterotrophism, photosynthesis, digestion, respiration, excretion, growth, reproduction are absolutely all processes of metabolism.

In my own book, I describe metabolism as the mother of all activities in living organisms

Be that as it may, the fundamental purpose ofmetabolism are;

  • Conversion of the energy in food to energy available to run life cellular processes
  • Conversion of food to building blocks for proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and others
  • Elimination of metabolic wastes

So therefore, the functional activities that result in growth and repair of body tissue are called metabolism.

Which of the following is correct with regard to HIV infection? A The host cell receptor is GP120 which the viral spike protein
Fiesta28 [93]

Answer:

B The host cell receptor is CD4 which the viral spike protein GP120 will bind to.

Explanation:

In HIV binding and entry, the HIV protein envelope, glycoprotein GP120 binds to the host primary cellular receptor CD4 to fuse to the host cell membrane and then initiate infection.

The virus presents itself as viral membrane spikes (molecular mimics of host molecules), these spikes consist of three molecules of gp120 which are linked together and anchored by gp41 protein to the membrane. The gp120 then binds to CD4 receptor of the host cell to facilitate viral entry int the host cell and further illicit other responses that lead to infection and dominance.

The client has been diagnosed with septic arthritis in a hip joint. Which outcomes are desired from a client-focused teaching pl
elena-s [515]
The nurse should determine that a client with rheumatoid arthritis can describe the septic arthritis physiologic process and knows how to relieve pain using pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions. Prolonged immobility and limited activity may promote formation of a deep vein thrombosis and possibly subsequent pulmonary emboli. The client should also understand the importance of supporting the affected joint, weight-bearing and activity restrictions, and how to use ambulatory aids and assistive devices safely to promote recovery of normal function. The local application of heat and cold to an injured body part can provide therapeutic benefits; however, "high" heat may cause a thermal injury and further promote edema formation. The client should inform the health care provider (HCP) about pain that is not relieved by the current management plan.

Morphine sulfate grain 1/4 po is ordered. On hand is Morphine sultate 10 mg tablets. How many tablets will you give?
vampirchik [111]

Answer:

1 tablet and a half.

Explanation:

1 mg is equivalent to 1/60gr

              or

1 gr is equivalent to 60 mg.

Since you need to give 1/4 gr of morphine sulfate, you need to give 1/4 of 60mg. If you will calculate that, you will need to give 15 mg of morphine sulfate. Since the tablets come in 10 mg, you will need to give 1 tablet and a half.

You can also compute it this way:

\dfrac{1}{4}gr\times \dfrac{60mg}{1gr} = \dfrac{60mg}{4}=15mg

15mg\times \dfrac{1 tablet}{10mg} = 1.5 tablets
