The economic advantages of using enslaved people on plantations in the South included:

 • More labor at cheaper wage rates
 • Increased profit margins.

What was the benefit of using enslaved people?

The economic activities of the South required the usage of a high number of workers and laborers and this would have been expensive if people were hired.

In order to have better profit margins, people turned to enslaved people who were laborers that did not get paid but still had to be taken care of. Their rates were therefore lower.

Gold and salt were Africa's most valuable resources. Taxes were enforced on merchants who went on trade routes which made the kingdoms very wealthy.
