Based on the historical records and information, during the legislation (debate) over ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America, two (2) opposing groups were formed and these were:

  • Federalist party: they supported ratification of the Constitution.
  • Democratic-Republican party: they didn't support ratification of the Constitution.

However, a legislative compromise known as "one proportional body and one uniform body" was reached and this allowed the U.S. Constitution to be approved.
