Sherry has a meeting with her regional boss scheduled for the same time that her daughter is competing in the high school state
Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

Work-family conflict.

Explanation:

A work-family conflict can be defined as the process whereby family roles interfere with an individual's performance, commitment and responsibilities at their workplace as well as how this work affect their personal life (family) since they are required to invest time, energy and strong commitment.

Simply stated, work-family conflict are mutually incompatible because each role invariably affects the other according to Kahn et al. (1964).

Using the Greenhaus and Beutell (1985) framework, work-family conflict can be classified in to three (3) main categories, these are;

1. Behavior-based conflict: this conflict occurs when certain behaviors exhibited by an individual isn't compatible with assigned roles.

2. Strain-based conflict: it is a type of conflict that arises when stress from the performance of a role is transferred to another role, thus affecting commitment, efficiency and effectiveness.

3. Time-based conflict: it is a type of conflict that arises when a person is not able to perform other roles as a result of devotion of time to another.

In this scenario, Sherry has a meeting with her regional boss scheduled for the same time that her daughter is competing in the high school state swimming finals. These competing demands would cause a work-family conflict. This is an example of a time-based ork-family conflict.

Why did soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev introduce economic and political reforms?
valentina_108 [34]

To appeal to the dissatisfied, multi-ethnic population of the Soviet Union.

A comment from the History Channel explains the situation in the USSR when Gorbachev was in power. "In 1985, even many of the most conservative hardliners realized that much needed to change. The Soviet economy was faltering and dissidents and internal and external critics were calling for an end to political repression and government secrecy." As far as the aim of Gorbachev's reforms, "The plan was for the Soviet Union to become more transparent, and in turn for the leadership of the nation and the Communist Party to be improved," according to YourDictionary.

In March 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev proposed policies of perestroika (restructuring) and glasnost (openness) in the Soviet Union. These seemed like policies that leaned in the direction of Western ways of economics and politics. Perestroika meant allowing some measure of private enterprise in the Soviet Union. Glasnost meant allowing a bit of freedom in regard to speech and publication. Gorbachev was not trying to get rid of the Soviet communist system. He actually was trying to prop it up and preserve it, because it was starting to have many problems sustaining itself, and there was too much dissatisfaction and dissent occurring among the country's people. But in the end, opening things up a bit with perestroika and glasnost policies pushed the USSR further in the direction of shedding the communist model under which it had lived for so long, and would begin to spell the end of the USSR.

Juliette [100K]

Answer:

The best answer to the question: Which quotation correctly uses ellipsis to shorten Twain´s words, would be: the second one "and there is no reason why I shouldn´t".

Explanation:

The reason for this being the correct answer comes from understanding the purpose of an ellipsis, or ellipses. Ellipses are punctuation marks, just like comas, or periods, that have the specific purpose of marking portions of a written sentence, paragraph, passage, or an entire text, that are not really needed information, but rather added, and which if removed from the text will not affect the overall comprehension of the meaning of the text. In this case, Twain saying "and there is no reason why I shouldn´t" in regards to how long he expects to live, is added information to the main passage that if removed from it will not affect the overall understanding of his meaning.
