It is important for nurse to not only assess a patient clinically but also check their background because sometime , a patients clinical problem are caused due to their psycho-social situations. It depends on patient and what they seeking clinical help for.

A patients medical history can also identify the chances of their probability of having lifestyle disease like diabetes, thyroids, asthma , heart attacks , etc which can be the main cause of serious healthy conditions. It helps nurse to minutely assess and give the best of medical facilities to that patients.

The purpose of obtaining healthy history is gather subjective data , 1 history taking in clinical practices provides sufficient information in about 75% of patients and is useful for making diagnosis before performing further examination or testing.
