Personal jurisdiction is the type of  jurisdiction which involves a court's power to bring a person into its adjudicative process.

The power that a court has to make a decision regarding the party being sued in a case is personal  jurisdiction.

There are generally five types of jurisdiction: Subject matter jurisdiction, personal jurisdiction, general and limited jurisdiction, exclusive / concurrent jurisdiction, territorial jurisdiction.

The difference between personal and subject jurisdiction is that personal jurisdiction is a requirement that a given court have power over the defendant, based on minimum contacts with the forum while subject jurisdiction is the requirement that a given court have power to hear the specific kind of claim that is brought to that court.

goblinko [34]

Answer:

d. Either A or C

Explanation:

Based on the information provided within the question it can be said that Big Corp will likely win if it can establish as a defense that either Pam was denied the promotion for legitimate non-discriminatory reasons or the denial of the promotion was based on mixed motives. Any of these two defenses would tell the court that there were other reasons as to why Pam was denied the promotion and it is not due to gender, which would make Pam's argument invalid.

olya-2409 [2.1K]

To acquire approval to conduct an experiment with subjects from her undergraduate psychology course, a student researcher needs to submit an application to the university's institutional review board.

The purpose of the institutional review board review is to make sure that the appropriate steps are taken to protect the rights and welfare of subjects who are engaging in research, both beforehand and via ongoing assessment. Institutional review boards (IRBs) are tasked with reviewing all research involving human beings in order to protect their rights and welfare.

According to 45 CFR 46.103, the Institutional review boards must assess and approve any non-exempt human subject study. The researcher might not be allowed to use the data and other material gathered throughout the research process if the Institutional review board's permission was not obtained prior to performing the study.
