During the Second Industrial Revolution, North Carolina's most important agricultural products were tobacco, cotton, and timber.

These products were exported across the USA but also used as raw materials for local industrialization.

Tobacco was turned into cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco in Tobacco mills.

Local production of cotton permitted the development of the textile industry. This crop was first worked into wool in the cotton mills and then turned into fabrics for clothing.

North Carolina had extensive forests that gave pine wood and hardwood for furniture manufacturing.
