When applying for a new job as an EMT, you had to watch a videotaped scenario and then complete a prehospital care report and give an oral patient hand-off report. This activity was most likely designed to assess the expected ability to maintain good verbal and written communication skills

What is emergency medical technicians?

Responding to emergency calls, emergency medical technicians treat the seriously ill and injured quickly and effectively while transporting the patient to a hospital.

The most prevalent EMS service providers are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), also known as EMTs. The fundamental abilities needed to assist in life-threatening situations are taught to EMTs, and many of them go on to obtain an Advanced EMT credential or become Paramedics.

It should be noted that the watching of a videotaped scenario and then completing a prehospital care report was important to assess the communication skills.

A five-year-old presents to the emergency department with epiglottitis

the nurse's first priority should be control of anxiety, facilitation of learning, Medications, and Hydration.

Epiglottis

The throat's epiglottis, a leaf-shaped flap, serves to keep food and liquids out of the windpipe and the lungs. When breathing, it remains open, allowing air to enter the larynx. It closes during swallowing to stop food from being inhaled into the lungs, forcing any liquids or food to travel down the esophagus and toward the stomach.

Interventions in Nursing

For a child with epiglottitis, the nursing interventions are:

 • control of anxiety:- The family should demonstrate personal activities that will help the youngster get rid of or lessen emotions of anxiety and stress that are coming from an unknown source.
 • facilitation of learning:- In addition to encouraging progress in the patient's capacity and openness to accept information, the nurse should support their ability to process and comprehend information.
 • Medications:- As directed, give antibiotics such as cefuroxime.
 • Hydration:- Since the child couldn't swallow, adjust the IV fluid as necessary.

It is important to address that boy may has exercise-induced asthma.

Exercise-induced asthma is a narrowing of the airways in the lungs triggered by strenuous exercise. It causes shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing, and other symptoms during or after exercise.

The more preferred term for this condition is exercise-induced bronchoconstriction.

Kids with EIB should be able to take part in activities; they just may need medication before an activity.

There are three types of medicines to prevent or treat the symptoms of EIB.

They are short-acting bronchodilator (taken 10-15min before the activity), long-acting bronchodilator (taken 30-60min before the activity) and mast cell stabilizers (taken 10-15min before the activity).
