Robert Hooke observed the thin slice of cork cells present in the plant cells. In 1665, Robert Hooke referred these empty tiny box-like cavities as cork cells.

<h3>What is Robert Hooke's Observation?</h3>

In 1665, Robert Hooke used a microscope to examine a tiny box-like empty cavities which are referred to as cork cells. He observed that the cork was made up of tiny units that looked like a honeycomb. He referred to them as cells, and he was the first to find a dead cell. This observation has a major contribution in the cell theory.

Hooke published his results under the title Micrographia, about his microscopic observations on several plant tissues. He is remembered as the coiner of the word “cell,” referring to the cavities he observed in thin slices of cork. The cork cells protect the tree from bacterial or fungal infection. It prevents water loss through the bark.

Explain how the exon/intron structure of genes contributes to the generation of new gene functions during evolution.
Temka [501]

Answer:

The exons may be defined as the coding region of the RNA that codes for the particular amino acid. The introns are the non coding region of RNA and must be removed in the final RNA product.

Exon shuffling result in the formation of new gene. The alteration of the exon and intron structure leads to the new gene function in evolution. The genes that are favored and conserved in the evolution perform new gene function. The genes that are selected against are deleted during the evolution.

Anna11 [10]

The standard plate count (SPC) method involves diluting 1.0m of bacterial culture into a series of water blanks, and then taking a sample from the water blanks to add to empty petri plates which will be filled with melted agar.

The standard plate count is a method used in microbiology, which is used to gain an insight to estimate the density of bacterial population which is present in a bacterial culture broth. This is done by plating a small concentration of the culture in a petri-dish and then counting the colonies which form in the petri-plate. This method is used mostly in the food industry, to find the density of mesophilic bacteria in food. This method is extremely essential to determine the primary source of the bacterial contaminant.

Which of the following statements does not highlight a difference in eukaryotic and prokaryotic translation?
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:

a. the first methionine in eukaryotic translation contains a formyl group.

Explanation:

Protein synthesis begins when the initiator aminoacyl tRNA carrying the initiator amino acid joins the mRNA-small ribosomal subunit complex. Procaryotes and eucaryotes differ from each other in the identity of the first initiator amino acid. In both types of organisms, "AUG" serves as an initiation codon. However, procaryotes have formyl-methionine joined to the amino acid arm of the initiator tRNA while eucaryotic initiator tRNA carries methionine as the first amino acid to be added to the protein.
