Explanation

We are asked to give a counter-example for the given statement

A counter-example is an example that opposes or contradicts an idea or statement.

Therefore, for the statement

we have that

Statement: If an appliance is used for cooling

Conclusion: then it is a refrigerator

Then, the option that contradicts this, will be a clothes dryer

Because a dryer doesn't cool

Hence, the answer is a cloth dryer

option D

Solve 9x-7y=-7 i don't know how to do it so could you show me step by step please
Lesechka [4]

First of all, you need to know what a 'solution' is, so you'll know it
when you see it.

A 'solution' to an equation is a number, or a set of numbers, that
you can write in place of the variables (the letters), and when you
do that, the equation will have only numbers in it, and it'll be a true
statement.

Your equation has two variables in it ... 'x' and 'y' .  In order to find
just a single set of numbers for what both of them must be, you
would need two equations.

The way it stands now, with only one equation, there are actually
an infinite number of solutions.  Each solution is a pair of numbers ...
one for 'x' and one for 'y' ... and if you write them into the equation
in place of 'x' and 'y', then the equation is a true statement.
I'll show you how to tell if a pair of numbers is a solution or not.

Here's what that looks like:

Say I give you two pairs of numbers, and I tell you that both of them
are solutions to your equation.  The 'solutions' I give you are

          x=0
          y=1
and
          x=2
          y=3 .

You don't trust me, and you say to me "Wait just a minute there, dude !
Not so fast.  I'll need to check them out and see if those are really solutions
to my equation."

You take the first pair and write it into your equation:
x=1, y=0
                                   9x  -  7y  = -7
                                  9(0) - 7(1) = -7
                                   0    -  7   = -7
                                           -7   = -7
OK.  That's a true statement.
So x=0, y=1 is a solution.

Now check the other one I gave you:
x=2, y=3
                                   9x  -  7y  = -7
                                  9(2) - 7(3) = -7
                                   18  -  21  = -7
                                        -3      = -7
This is NOT a true statement.
So  x=2, y=3 is NOT a solution to your equation.
I pulled a fast one on you.  If I was charging you money for solutions,
then you would not pay me for this one, because it's not a solution.

Two forces act on an object. The first Force has a magnitude of 400 Newtons and acts at an angle of 30 degrees as measured from
Sedaia [141]

ANSWER

Option D is correct

EXPLANATION

We resolve the forces into component forms.

F_1 = 400 \cos(30) i + 400 \sin(30) j

F_1 = 200  \sqrt{3} i +200j

Also the second is resolved to obtain,

F_2= 280 \cos(135) i + 280 \sin(135) j.

F_2=  - 140 \sqrt{2} i + 140  \sqrt{2}  j

To find the resultant vector, V, We add the corresponding components of the two forces to get:

V=F_1+F_2

\implies \: V = (200  \sqrt{3} - 140 \sqrt{2} )i + (200 + 140 \sqrt{2})j

The correct answer is D.

What is the five number summary for this data set?
MrRa [10]

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

The median is the middle value of the data set in ascending order. If there is no exact middle then the median is the average of the values either side of the middle.

Given

3   8   14   19   22   29   33   37   43   49

                            ↑ middle is between 22 and 29

median = \frac{22+29}{2} = \frac{51}{2} = 25.5

The upper quartile Q_{3} is the middle value of the data to the right of the median.

29   33   37   43   49

               ↑

Q_{3} = 37

The lower quartile Q_{1} is the middle value of the data to the left of the median.

3   8   14   19   22

           ↑

Q_{1} = 14

The min is the smallest value in the data set, that is 3

The max is the largest value in the data set, that is 49

The 5 number summary is

3,  14,  25.5,  37,  49
