A hormone called insulin lowers blood glucose levels, or sugar, by doing its job. Short-acting Humulin R insulin begins to work within 30 minutes of injection, peaks in 2 to 3 hours, and continues to function for up to 8 hours.
Adults and kids with diabetes mellitus can improve blood sugar control by taking regular insulin. Type 1 or type 2 diabetes may be treated with this medication.
