The checks and balances system are built into the U.S. Constitution in order to guard against tyranny of total control by ensuring that not one branch would control too much power.

The checks and balances is a system in the Constitution in which different body of an organization such as the government have control and influences over the other part of the bodies ensuring that not one body will become too powerful to dominate other bodies of the government. In the US government, checks and balances are ensured with the establishment of three different branches: the executive branch, the judicial branch, and the legislative branch.

An examples of checks and balances in the United States Constitution is that the legislative branch such as the congress are tasked with making laws and legislation, but the executive branch such as the president in are able to veto those laws with a Presidential Veto.
