SOLUTION:

We want to express as a fraction;

\begin{gathered} 2\text{ }days\text{ }to\text{ }42\text{ }hours \\ 1\text{ }day=24\text{ }hours \\ 2\text{ }days=48\text{ }hours \\ \end{gathered}

Thus, the ratio becomes;

\begin{gathered} 48\text{ }hours\text{ }to\text{ }42\text{ }hours \\ =\frac{48}{42}=\frac{8}{7}=1\frac{1}{7} \end{gathered}

Thus, the ratio expressed as a fraction is;

\frac{8}{7}

Given

x^5*k=a .................(1)

x^2*k=b .................(2)

We need to find x^3.

Solution:

On inspection, we note that (1)/(2) gives x^3 on the left hand side, but the division is valid on conditions that x ≠ 0 and k ≠ 0.

So we conclude:

(1) / (2)

\frac{x^5*k}{x^2*k^2} = \frac{a}{b}

=>

\frac{x^3}{k} = \frac{a}{b}

=>

x^3= \frac{ak}{b} on condition that x\ne{0} and k\ne{0}
