Experimental manipulation is the primary difference between the control and experimental groups in any experiment.

In performing any type of experiment, to know whether the changes occur or not, the comparison is being done and for that primarily two groups are formed i.e., the control and the experimental group.

  • Control group: A group that is exposed to normal conditions and free from getting any experimental treatment or effect of the independent variable. This group is mainly to see the difference that happened in the experimental group (taken as a reference).
  • Experimental group: A group in which an experiment is being done including manipulation of independent variables and changes in values recorded after being compared with the control group.

For instance, If we want to know the effect of junk food on our health for which we will make two groups: a control group (exposed to natural conditions without consuming junk food) and an experimental group (exposed to junk food to know the impact).
