The most common pathogen in the genus is C. testosteroni. This organism is known as a 'testosteroni' because it can grow solely on testosterone-containing media. E. coli is a Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped coliform bacterium of the genus Escherichia that is commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms.Most strains of E. coli are harmless and even beneficial to your digestive tract. However, some strains can cause diarrhoea if you consume contaminated food or drink contaminated water.
