The segment addition postulate states that if we are given two points on a line segment, A and C, a third point B lies on the line segment AC

<em>if and only if the distances between the points meet the requirements of the equation AB + BC = AC.</em>

<em />

The picture can look roughly like this:

We can see that "R" is in-between "A" and "X".

From the postulate, we can write:

AR + RX = AX

Now,

Given

AR = 5x - 15

RX = 3x + 1

AX = 58,

We put it into the equation and find x first. Shown below:

\begin{gathered} AR+RX=AX \\ (5x-15)+(3x+1)=58 \\ 5x+3x-15+1=58 \\ 8x-14=58 \\ 8x=58+14 \\ 8x=72 \\ x=\frac{72}{8} \\ x=9 \end{gathered}

Since, we got x, we can easily find AR and RX. Shown below:

AR = 5x - 15

AR = 5(9) - 15

AR = 45 - 15

AR = 30

and

RX = 3x + 1

RX = 3(9) + 1

RX = 27 + 1

RX = 28

A sequence is defined by the recursive function f(n + 1) =1/3 f(n). If f(3) = 9 , what is f(1) ?
USPshnik [31]
<h3>A sequence is defined by the recursive function then f(1) is 81</h3>

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that,

A sequence is defined by the recursive function:

f(n+1) = \frac{1}{3} \times f(n) ------ eqn 1

Given that,

f(3) = 9

<em><u>Substitute n = 2 in eqn </u></em><em><u>1</u></em>

f(2 + 1) = \frac{1}{3} \times f(2)\\\\f(3) =  \frac{1}{3} \times f(2)\\\\Substitute\ f(3) = 9\\\\9 = \frac{1}{3} \times f(2)\\\\f(2) = 27

<em><u>Substitute n = 1 in eqn 1</u></em>

f(1 + 1) = \frac{1}{3} \times f(1)\\\\f(2) = \frac{1}{3} \times f(1)\\\\Substitute\ f(2) = 27\\\\27 = \frac{1}{3} \times f(1)\\\\f(1) = 27 \times 3\\\\f(1) = 81

Thus f(1) is 81

What property is illustrated in the following statement? If DF= FG and FG=GH, then DF=GH. pls help
Gnoma [55]

Answer:

Its a parallelogram

Step-by-step explanation:

Since there are 4 points we know it has to be a 4 sided shape. Since 3 out of the four sides are equal, then we know that this shape has to be a parallelogram so it has at least one pair of parallel lines.
