For the equation y = 2x + 3, calculate the x and y intercepts

when y = 0

0 = 2x + 3

x = -3/2

x = -1.5

The x-intercept = (-1.5, 0)

when x = 0

y = 2(0) + 3

y = 3

The y-intercept = (0, 3)

Locate the points (-1.5, 0) and (0, 3) to graph the equation y = 2x + 3

For the equation y = -1/3 x + 2, calculate the x and y intercepts

when y = 0

\begin{gathered} 0=-\frac{1}{3}x+2 \\ \frac{1}{3}x=2 \\ x=6 \end{gathered}

The x-intercept = (6, 0)

when x = 0

y = -1/3 (0) + 2

y = 2

The y-intercept = (0, 2)

The graphs of the two equations are plotted using their x and y intercepts as shown below

y = 2x + 3 is plotted in red

y = -1/3 x + 2 is plotted in blue

The solution to the system of equations represented by the two lines is (-0.429, 2.143)

50 POINTS IF YOU HELP ME!!!!!! A study of college business majors included 150 sophomores and 200 juniors. The study showed that
nikdorinn [45]

Answer:

= 0.3478

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

- The number of sophomore, S = 150

- The sophomore and had summer internship, x = 80

- The number of juniors, J = 200

- The junior and had summer internship, y = 150

Find:-

What is the probability that the person is a sophomore given that the person had a summer internship?

Solution:-

- The total sum of sophomore and junior students is N:

                        N = S + J

                        N = 150 + 200

                        N = 350 students.

- We will denote event A as random selection of sophomore from total.

- We will denote event B as random selection of student who had summer internship.

- We are to determine the conditional probability that a person selected is sophomore given that the person had a summer internship. That is the probability of event A given that event B has already occured.

- The conditional probability can be written as:

                       P ( A / B ) = P ( A & B ) / P ( B )

Where,

       P ( A & B ) : The probability the person is a sophomore and had a summer internship.

       P ( B ): The probability that the person selected had a summer internship.

                     P ( A & B ) = x / N

                                       = 80 / 350

                                       = 0.22857143

                    P ( B ) = ( x + y ) / N

                              = ( 80 + 150 ) / 350 = 230/350

                              = 0.65714286

Therefore the required probability is:

                    P ( A / B ) = 0.22857143 / 0.65714286

                                     = 0.3478  ... Answer

66 bats were sold. Some were sold for $42 each the rest were sold for $30 each. The total sales were$2,460. Write and solve a sy
Phoenix [80]

Answer:

40 bats sold for $42

26 bats sold for $30

Step-by-step explanation:

x + y = 66

42x + 30y = 2460

solve first equation for y and plug in for y in second equation

42x + 30 (66 - x) = 2460

x = 40

y = 66- 40 = 26

There are only chickens and pigs in Henry's Barn Henry counted a total of Sixteen animal heads and a total of 50 animal feet.How
raketka [301]

Answer:

9 pigs

Step-by-step explanation:

We have the following numbers of heads:

pigs (p) + chickens (c) = 16 animal heads (1)

And the following numbers of feet:

4p + 2c = 50 animal feet   (2)

From equation (1):

p = 16 - c (3)

By entering equation (3) into (2) we have:

4(16 - c) + 2c = 50

64 - 4c + 2c = 50

c = 7

Now, entering the value of c into equation (3) we have the next value of p:

p = 16 - c

p = 16 - 7

p = 9

Therefore, the number of pigs that Henry has is 9.

I hope it helps you!
