Question: Why did John Winthrop create “a city upon a hill”?

Answer: The ''city upon a hill'' was created with the purpose of being an example and beacon for Europe and the rest of the world, a model of Christian charity and to show everyone how rightful living had to be by having all the people's eyes on them.

Explanation: John Winthrop was an English Puritan lawyer and one of the leaders in founding the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
