Sum of the First n Terms of a Geometric Sequence

Given a geometric sequence (or series) with a first-term a1 and common ratio r, the sum of the first n terms is given by:

S_n=a_1\cdot\frac{1-r^n}{1-r}

We are given the series:

120-80+\frac{160}{3}-\frac{320}{9}+\cdots

Before calculating the required sum, we need to find the common ratio. It's defined as the division of two consecutive terms. For example, using the first two terms:

\begin{gathered} r=-\frac{80}{120} \\ Simplify\colon \\ r=-\frac{2}{3} \end{gathered}

The first term is a1 =120. Now apply the formula:

S_8=120\cdot\frac{1-(-\frac{2}{3})^8}{1+\frac{2}{3}}

Operating:

\begin{gathered} S_8=120\cdot\frac{1-\frac{2^8}{3^8}}{\frac{5}{3}} \\ S_8=120\cdot\frac{1-\frac{256}{6561}}{\frac{5}{3}} \\ S_8=120\cdot\frac{\frac{6561-256}{6561}}{\frac{5}{3}} \\ S_8=120\cdot\frac{\frac{6305}{6561}}{\frac{5}{3}} \end{gathered}

Calculating:

\begin{gathered} S_8=120\cdot\frac{1261}{2187} \\ \text{Simplifying:} \\ S_8=\frac{50440}{729} \end{gathered}

Jack is growing Red wiggler worms to help make compost. He measured the lengths of two young worms. The 10- day old worm is 10/1
Lilit [14]

Answer:

The 20-day old worm is \frac{5}{6} inches more longer than the 10-day old worm.

Step-by-step explanation:

Jack is growing Red wiggler worms to help make compost. He measured the lengths of two young worms. The 10- day old worm is \frac{10}{12} inch long. The 20-day old worm is 1\frac{4}{6} inches long.

Therefore, the 10-day old worm is \frac{10}{12} i.e \frac{5}{6} inches long.

And the 20-day old worm is 1\frac{4}{6} i.e. \frac{10}{6} = \frac{5}{3} inches long

Therefore, the 20-day old worm is (\frac{5}{3} - \frac{5}{6}) = \frac{5}{6} inches more longer than the 10-day old worm. (Answer)

To find the area of a trapezoid, it’s 1/2(base 1 + base 2) x height.
so in this case, base 1 is 16 (add 12+2+2) (the top one) and base 2 is 12 (the bottom one) and the height is 9.
you input all the values in the formula and you get 126in.
hope this helped:)

Nickoy brought some shirts. He paid $12 for each shirt. This can be modeled by the expression 12x. What does x represent
Ne4ueva [31]

Answer:

x represents the number of shirts purchased

Step-by-step explanation:

Each time Nick buys a shirt, he has an outlay of $12.  One shirt for $12, two shirts for $24, and so on.  So the amount due for the purchase of x shirts is ($12/shirt)x, where x represents the number of shirts purchased.
