Has adapted to it's function by the presence of cytoplasm, which increases its surface area to make it easier in the development of the embryo within it

The cytoplasm contains a large volume of nutrients to help the embryo grow. They are lined with cilia that helps move substances away. They have a protective jelly coat that hardens after fertilization. [E] The egg cell membrane can fuse with the sperm cell membrane.
