"Here Follow Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, July 10, 1666", usually shortened to "Verses upon the Burning of Our House", is a poem by Anne Bradstreet. She wrote it to specific the annoying lack of her domestic and maximum of her possessions.

However, she expands the knowledge that God had taken them away so as for her own circle of relatives to stay a extra pious life. Bradstreet feels responsible that she is harm from dropping earthly possessions. It is in opposition to her notion that she ought to sense this way; displaying she is a sinner.

Her deep puritan ideals added her to just accept that the lack of cloth become a spiritually important occurrence. She reminds herself that her future, and something that has value, lies in heaven. Though she feels responsible, she is aware of that she is one of the lucky ones who've salvation regardless; God offers it to his followers and could assist them combat their sin in this earth.  The burning of her residence become to combat her own circle of relative's sins of cloth idols.
