A Certificate Revocation List (CRL) is a list of digital certificates that have been revoked by their issuing Certificate Authority (CA) before their actual or assigned expiration date.

The access point sends the certificate to the RADIUS server to check if it has expired. If still enabled, RADIUS checks a directory of authorized users (such as Active Directory). If the user is authorized, RADIUS checks her CRL to make sure the certificate has not been revoked.
