What is the difference between personal identity and social identity?

Personal identities are intrapersonal components of self that are linked to our individual interests and life experiences. Social identities are aspects of self that arise from our participation in social groups in which we have an interpersonal investment.

Personal identity can simply be defined as an individual's sense of self as he grows older. This is not a static state, but rather one that evolves as the individual encounter's new dimensions in life. When it comes to basic personal identity formation, the individual tries to understand who he is, where he belongs, what is important to him, and so on.

What is dominant identity formation?

Dominant identity formation may include a person progressing from being unaware of their identities, to accepting the identity hierarchy, to separation from and guilt toward the dominant group, and finally to redefining and integrating identity components.

Which of these is a factor that contributes to cultural change over time
Makovka662 [10]

Answer:

Blending cultures is a factor that eventually translates to cultural change.

Explanation:

In the day-to-day activities, people encounter others who have different cultural beliefs, traditions and customs. As they interact with other cultural aspects, although there might arise conflicts but eventually there is borrowing and complete culture change.

Cultural blending therefore will lead to cultural change if we are to consider the changes that occur, beliefs, customs and traditions are copied by one community or both.

The ideas copied from the other community will lead to culture change as they will be absorbed to completely become part of their culture and it will no longer be what it used to be.

Which of these would have the BIGGEST impact on the interaction between India and China?
Naily [24]

The correct option is (A), The Three Gorges Dam. The Three Gorges is the world biggest power plant, the biggest dam, and consumer of stone, dirt, steel, and concrete. The three gorges dam will cause serious environmental pollution, such as water pollution, erosion, air pollution etc. Particularly the river Brahmaputra will be the most affected. The Brahmaputra river is the most important for India because of water resources. So, it would have the biggest impact on the interaction between India and China.

Are Samatha and Shamatha Buddhist meditation the same thing?
V125BC [204]
To start with, I've seen Samantha and Samandhi. And Samadhi Sutta, which interestingly discusses tranquillity and insight ( samatha and vipassana ).
There's another sutta which says that samatha and vipassana are paired qualities - samatha gets rid of passion, vipassana gets rid of delusion ( I'll see if I can find it ). Note that samatha is a quality, not a method.
