2 Two cars left the city for a suburb, 480 km away, at the same time. The speed of one of the cars was 20 km/hour greater than t

he speed of the other, and that is why it arrived at the suburb 2 hour earlier than the other car. Find the speeds of both cars.

80 km

60 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Remember that; time = distance/ speed

Assume that the first car is traveling at <em>x</em> km/h

The second is traveling at (<em>x+20</em>) km/h

The distance is given as 480km

The difference in their arrival is 2hrs. Therefore;

480/x – 480/(x+20) = 2

480(x+20) – 480x = 2x(x+20)

480x + 9600 - 480x = 2x² – 40x

2x² - 40x - 9600 = 0

2x² + 120x – 160x - 9600 = 0

2x (x - 60) - 160 (x -60 ) = 0

(2x – 160) (x - 60) = 0

2x - 160 = 0

x = 80

x - 60 = 0

x = 60

The coffee merchant plans to mix some fancy $6.50 per pound ground coffee called royal soil with 10 pounds of a lowly $2 per pou
taurus [48]

Answer and explanation:

Given:

Royal soil= $6.50 per pound

Royal peasant = $2 per pound of 10 pounds

Blend total pounds is x+10, price is unknown hence solved below

Using algebra

We find unknown x = number of pounds of royal soil

$6.50(x)+$2(10)=6.50x+20/x+10(x+10)

= 6.50x+20= 6.50x²+85x+200

Eva8 [605]

For this case we have the following functions:

f (x) = x ^ 2-6x + 8\\g (x) = x-2

We must subtract the functions:

f (x) -g (x) = x ^ 2-6x + 8- (x-2)\\f (x) -g (x) = x ^ 2-6x + 8-x + 2\\f (x) -g (x) = x ^ 2-7x + 10

We build a table of values for x = 0,1,2,3.

x = 0, f (x) -g (x) = 0 ^ 2-7 (0) + 10 = 10\\x = 1, f (x) -g (x) = 1 ^ 2-7 (1) + 10 = 1-7 + 10 = 4\\x = 2, f (x) -g (x) = 2 ^ 2-7 (2) + 10 = 4-14 + 10 = 0\\x = 3, f (x) -g (x) = 3 ^ 2-7 (3) + 10 = 9-21 + 10 = -2

Answer:

f (x) -g (x) = x ^ 2-7x + 10
