“The Allegory of the Cave” is an extended metaphor describing the plight of one forced to live out his life chained in a cave. All he knows of the universe are those shadows that happen to pass over and those echoes that reverberate off the cave wall. Hypothetically, he is freed and allowed to glimpse the fire behind him that enables the shadows to be cast. The light of the fire hurts him and the sight of objects that play owner to his familiar shadows confuses him. He runs from the light. He is then forced outside the cave, forced to witness the sun. Angry at his exile from the cave and fairly blinded by the power of the sun, the man is slow to adjust. Given time, he is able to look upon shadows, reflections, physical objects, and finally, the sun itself. Having seen the light, returning to the cave seems a decent into darkness. The prisoners he returns to conclude that his expedition outside has left him blind. Their resolve hardens even more thoroughly against a similar fate befalling them.

sqrt 50 = 7.07106781

sqrt 72 = 8.48528137

sqrt 45 = 6.70820393

(Sqrt means square root)

Hope this helps!

Your friend is adding to her argument that favors teens owning smartphones. Which of the following is the most respectful, relev
Snowcat [4.5K]
The answer would be D because A, B, and C are not relevant to her side of the argument. Those three letters really refer to the opposing side rather than her's. D is the only answer that seems logical for her to pick because it could be information that could be used on her side of the argument.

Which type of figurative language is used to describe ichabod crane’s person?
tigry1 [53]

Answer:

None of the alternatives are correct.

Explanation:

Ichabod Crane is in fact described using figurative language, but the figures of speech used are the metaphor and the simile, as can be seen in the excerpt below:

"hands that dangled a mile out of his sleeves... feet that might have served for shovels... his head... looked like a weathercock perched on his shoulders."

The metaphor is the figure of speech that presents an implicit and subjective comparison between two elements that have something in common, while the simile is the figure of language that presents an explicit comparison between two elements that do not have similarities, but that can develop a new meaning when compared.

Ichabod Crane is the main character of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," a story about a village that is haunted by a headless knight who decapitates those he encounters.

Read this excerpt from "Pakistan's Malala: Global Symbol.” "I have the right of education," she said in a 2011 interview with CN
Amiraneli [1.4K]
Entitled.

Usually entitled has a negative connotation, showing that someone feels they deserve a lot usually for no reason. In this excerpt though, Malala is being entitled with a positive connotation. She is showing that she, along with all girls, should have the right to do and take part in all of these things that boys can.
