Your firm is contemplating the purchase of a new $485,000 computer based order entry system. The system will depreciate straight

line to zero over its five year life. It will be worth $35,000 at the end of that time. You will save $140,000 before taxes per year in order processing costs, and you will be able to reduce working capital by $60,000(on time. If the tax rate is 24%, what is the IRR for this project?

Answer:

14.29%

Explanation:

Calculation of the IRR for this project

First step is to find the depreciation

Each year depreciation will be :

$485,000/5=$97,000

Second step is to calculate for the Operating Cash flow for each year

Using this formula

Each year OCF=(Sales-costs)*(1-Tc)+Depreciation*Tc

=$140,000*76%+$97,000*24%=$129,680

Therefore in n five years, the after-tax salvage will be calculated as:

$35,000-($35,000-0)*Tc=$26,600

Hence in year 5, total cash flow will be:

=$129,680-$60,000+$26,600=$96,280

For the year 0, the total cash flow i will be:

-$485,000+$60,000=-$425,000

Last step is to find the NPV

Let NPV=-$425,000+$129,680/(1+IRR)^¹+ $129,680/(1+IRR)^²+ $129,680/(1+IRR)^3+$129,680/(1+IRR)^⁴+ $96,280/(1+IRR)⁵=0

IRR=14.29%

Therefore the IRR for this project will be 14.29%

Moss exchanges a warehouse for a building he will use as an office building. The adjusted basis of the warehouse is $600,000 and
rodikova [14]

Answer:

correct option is b. $0 and $450,000

Explanation:

given data

adjusted basis warehouse = $600,000

fair market value office building = $350,000

receives cash = $150,000

to find out

What is the recognized gain or loss and the basis of the office building

solution

we get first realized amount that is

realized amount = office building + cash

realized amount = 350000+ 150000

realized amount = $500000

adjusted basis = $600000

realized loss = $10000

and recognized loss = $0

and

basis of office building will be here as

basis of office building = office building + postponed loss

basis of office building = 350000 + 100000

basis of office building = $450000

so correct option is b. $0 and $450,000

The owner of a shopping mall wishes to expand the number of shops available in the food court. She has a market researcher surve
Angelina_Jolie [31]

Answer:

The Sampling Bias

Explanation:

Here in this question, the owner is only getting information about the customers which are coming to the mall on weekdays only while neglecting the response which could have been received on weekends.

Therefore this can be termed as a Sampling Bias. The perfect way to go after this question is to ask the customers which are coming to the mall on weekends as well as weekdays, throughout the day.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

The following materials standards have been established for a particular product: Standard quantity per unit of output 5.5 meter
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

a.) Material price variance = 8,827 favorable

b.) Material Quantity variance = 12,033 favorable

Explanation :

a.) Since in the question the actual price is not given. So we have to first compute the actual price which is shown below.

= Actual cost of material purchased ÷ Actual material purchased

= $182,700 ÷ 9,100 meters

= $20.07

The equation for computing material price variance is shown below:

= Actual Quantity × ( Actual Price - Standard Price )

= 9,100 × ($20.07 - $19.10)

= 8,827 favorable.

b.) Since the standard quantity is not given in the question.

So, Standard quantity = Actual output × Standard quantity per unit of output

                                   = 1,540 × 5.5

                                   = 8,470

Calculation of materials quantity variance for the month is displayed below:

= Standard Price × (Actual Quantity - Standard Quantity)

= $19.10 × (9,100 - 8,470)

= 12,033 favorable

Here, favorable means that actual cost is higher than standard cost.

Thus, material price variance and materials quantity variance is 8,827 favorable and 12,033 favorable.

Exercise 6-18 Break-Even and Target Profit Analysis; Margin of Safety; CM Ratio [LO6-1, LO6-3, LO6-5, LO6-6, LO6-7]Menlo Company
bonufazy [111]

Answer:

Instructions are below.

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

Sales= $640,000 ($40)

Variable expenses= 448,000 (28)

Contribution margin= 192,000 ($12)

Fixed expenses= (145,200)

Net operating income=$46,800

1) To calculate the break-even point in units and dollars, we need to use the following formulas:

Break-even point in units= fixed costs/ contribution margin per unit

Break-even point in units= 145,200/(40-28)

Break-even point in units= 12,100 units

Break-even point (dollars)= fixed costs/ contribution margin ratio

Break-even point (dollars)= 145,200/ (12/40)

Break-even point (dollars)= $484,000

2) The break-even point is the number of units to sell to reach a net profit of cero. Therefore, the contribution margin must be equal to the fixed costs.

Contribution margin= 145,200

3) profit= $75,600

Break-even point in units= (fixed costs + desired profit)/ contribution margin per unit

Break-even point in units= 220,800/12

Break-even point in units= 18,400 units

Sales= 18,400*40= 736,000

Total variable costs= 18,400*28= (515,200)

Contribution margin= 220,800

Fixed costs= 145,200

Net profit= 75,600

4) The margin of safety:

Margin of safety= (current sales level - break-even point)

Margin of safety= 640,000 - 484,000= $156,000

Margin of safety ratio= (current sales level - break-even point)/current sales level

Margin of safety ratio= 156,000/640,000

Margin of safety ratio= 0.244= 24.4%

5) Contribution margin ratio= 12/40= 0.3

Net increase= 96,000*0.3= $28,800
