This scenario is one example of the Signal Detection Theory. It can be that Marge is interested with the topic of the upcoming election that is why she was able to pick up the conversation despite the background noise in the restaurant. This is also why Xavier was not able to hear that conversation.

Joni is applying for a position at a local hospital as a receptionist. Which of these factors would have the MOST impact on her
Veseljchak [2.6K]

Answer:

D) Her success in extracurricular activities

Explanation:

In this scenario, Joni wants to become a receptionist at a local hospital, which requires abilities such as good interpersonal skills and excellent communication abilities and other personal attributes that are important in an environment that involves dealing with patients, such as kindness and the ability to display empathy.

From these options, her graduation rank, religious affiliation, or bilingual / multilingual capabilities are not as important as her success in extracurricular activities because the latter usually involve high levels or socialization and allow an individual to develop good communication skills.

It is important to mention that this also depends on where Joni is located as well, for instance, if this hospital is located in an area with a high level of diversity (e.g. London or Los Angeles), her ability to speak more than one language would also be highly relevant.

Schach [20]

Answer:

Sarah and Dean are also more likely to be poor compared with married parents.

Explanation:

The number of unmarried couples with children in the U.S. has increased in the past decades, and statistical evidence shows that they have more probabilities of being poor than married parents, these tend to be better off financially.

There are many factors that contribute to this difference, two of the most important ones are age and educational level. Unmarried couples are commonly younger than married parents, since marriage rates have dropped among the younger generations; because of this, they have less job security and benefits than older married couples. It has also been demonstrated that younger unmarried couples tend to have a lower educational level, which also impacts on their job options and opportunities.

5.
According to the text, when and why did the KKK experience surges and declines in popularity?
Readme [11.4K]

The Ku Klux Klan, founded in the late 1860’s, experiences three major surges in popularity promoting ideals such as white supremacy, white nationalism, Nativism, anti-immigration, and anti-communism.

The first era of Ku Klux Klan experienced a rise in popularity in the late 1800’s with the intent of overthrowing Republican state governments in the South and ensuring that newly-freed southern African Americans did not vote. In 1871 their membership was oppressed by federal law enforcement (1871 Ku Klux Klan Act signed by President Grant to combat the KKK and other white supremacy groups).

The second Ku Klux Klan group flourished nationwide in the 1920’s on the platform of pro-prohibition and anti-Catholicism and anti-Jewish feelings. They experience a diminished population in the late 1920’s (around the time of the Great Depression; a time of mass American economic hardship).

The modern-day third wave of the Ku Klux Klan came about in the late 1950’s opposing the civil rights movement. Current membership, as of 2016, amounts to an estimated 3,000-6,000 active members.
