In year 1842, Navy fleet of United States believed that war has broken out between both the countries and with that thought they seized Monterey, California but later they found out that war never broke out between these countries and Monterey was returned to Mexico next day after the seize. But after this attack, Tensions grew between United States and Mexico as Mexicans were sure that there can be war with United Sates any day in the near future. In the Presidential elections of 1844, The Americans elected James Polk as the President of the country and one of the major reasons of his victory was that James Polk had promised to deliver more lands to American people once he gets elected and he fulfilled his promises which he made during elections by gaining authority over Oregon and provoking war with Mexico in order to gain access to California.
