loris [4]

Answer: At age nine, students began learning Latin, which was the language of international affairs.

Explanation:

  • By using a relative pronoun<em> 'which'</em>, sentences 9 and 10 are connected into one. <em>Relative pronouns </em>are used to give additional information about a noun (Latin in this case).
  • The first sentence<em> 'At age nine, students began learning Latin' </em>(which is independent) is, in this way, joined to a subordinate clause <em>'which was the language of international affairs.'  </em>The two sentences form a new, complex sentence.
  • This is the most natural way to connect the two sentences.

Compound-complex sentence because "When I first came here" Isn't a full sentence. ''I didn't like the citizens because they were different" is a compound.

I think. I know it is a compound sentence, but from what I see it looks complex as well.

What kind of protectionism, cultural, political, or moral is the most difficult to overcome in our culture? Why?
shusha [124]

Answer:

Protectionism is a political measure that restricts the economy of a nation from trading with other countries. Thus, it seeks to "protect" the national industry, preventing foreign goods from entering the local economy through the interposition of trade barriers, such as tariffs or prohibitions, among others.

Thus, despite trying to protect the local economy, these measures restrict competition, increasing the cost and lowering the quality of products consumed in the local market, which ends up being detrimental to members of society.

Furthermore, because they are measures taken by the government, they are very difficult to avoid and overcome, at least until a change of government occurs.

never [62]

Answer:

The answer is A: breaking it up into shorter sentences and phrases.

Explanation:

The remaining part of the above question:

Which reading strategy would most help in comprehending the sentence?

A. Breaking it up into shorter sentences and phrases

B. Looking up the longer words

C. Relating the content to personal experience

D. Re-reading the sentence aloud.

When reading a text, especially one that is long, there are ways we can enhance our comprehension of what is being read.

In the text above, especially the first part, you can see that the sentence is very long. It contains a lot of commas and is generally not easy to understand.

A reading strategy that would help the most to comprehend it is to break it up into shorter sentences and phrases. This can easily be done by eliminating the commas and adding a couple of full stops to make them shorter sentences.

This would aid most in understanding.
