( one of the signs of death ).
It is the settling of the blood on the lower part of the body
Causing a purplish red discoloring of the skin

When the heart stops functioning and is no longer agitating
(transferring/moving) the blood,
Heavy red blood cells sink through the serum ( cell free fraction of blood )
by action of gravity.
