We may ask someone who is an expert in that field or we may conform to what we see others do.

When observe what others do who are in the same situation with us then we are able to let them lead us and we can follow their behaviour.

Geniene doesn't know how to select certain silverware but as she observes those who seem to know she is able to conform to the same behavior and their behavior has an influence on her to understand what silverware to select for what.
