Diuretics speed up the process of elimination of water and waste through the kidneys.

Diuretics are medications that stimulate the increased production and elimination of water and salt through the kidney as urine. There are three classes of diuretics which include; thiazide, loop and potassium-sparing. Each class of diuretics affects different part of the kidney in a different way. Diuretics are usually prescribed to treat high blood pressure with other conditions such as edema, liver and heart failure and some kidney disorders such as kidney stones.
