Explanation: The Carpetbaggers affected the politics of the South in the way many of these "opportunistic adventurers" as they were commonly called traveled from the North to the South with the sole purpose of obtaining personal benefits and obtaining some public office of the many who were left vacant in the South, as well as getting rich and abusing power. This situation affected the population of the South, who were not yet out of the adversities caused by the War of Sessation and many of them were left without the opportunity to move forward and have better economic and social conditions for them. It should be clarified that not all Carpetbaggers were opportunists, some of them were altruistic people who sought to help slaves who did not have any kind of protection after the War of Sessation.
