Cryosurgery refers to the process of application of extreme cold to certain part of the body. The process is used as surgical method for many conditions such as to remove the skin lesions and to reattach the detached retina. Since the application of extreme cold makes the pain receptors of the area nonfunctional, it does not need the use of local anesthesia.
