Confused on "their sum is to the sum of their squares as 7 is to 50." Help me put this in a equation please

I cant read the picture very well 
but if the sum is,  say (x + 3)  and sum of their squares is x^2 + 9  then it means

    x+3               7
----------     =   ----- 
x^2 + 9            50
