You can eliminate A because the New England region didn't have fertile land to grow crops, that was the southern/middle region. It's not B because the middle/southern region didn't have too much trade. And it's not C because shipbuilding was in the North/New England region since they had a lot of water (rivers and such. So that leaves us with D, which makes sense because the North/New England had fast moving rivers that helped them have a lot of factories which led to a lot of manufacturing, and people thought they would have a better life if they came up to the cities and worked in factories, which didn't work well because of over-crowding and illnesses and such, so the families that moved had very little income, and they all had to work. But in the South, slavery was allowed, they didn't have factories, and their farms needed a low pay workforce. So what do they do? Ding ding ding!
