The equation to represent the number of weeks Lewis needs to work in order to purchase the rings is as follows, y=20x+80. y is the cost of the ring, 20 is how much he gets, x, weeks. 80 is the initial value, the money he already has. Using the equation we can plug y with 260, 260=20x+80. To solve this equation you subtract 80 from each side, 260-80=20x+80-80 which simplified is 180=20x. Then you divide 20 into each side to isolate the variable. 180/20=20x/20 which simplified is 9=x. The answer is, "It will take 9 weeks for Lewis to purchase the ring."

The daltons completed 30% of their 2140-mile trip the first day
Ugo [173]
To figure out how many miles the Daltons traveled the first day you times 2140 miles and 30 percent.
So 2140 x .30 = 642
They traveled 642 miles the first day.

To figure out how many miles they still have to travel you subtract your original miles (2140) from how many miles they have already traveled (642).
So 2140 - 642 = 1498
They have 1498 miles to still travel.

Write p(x) = 21 + 24x + 6x2 in vertex form.
Citrus2011 [14]

ANSWER

p(x)=-3+6(x+2)^2

EXPLANATION

The given function is

p(x)=21+24x+6x^2

We make the coefficient of x^2 unity by factoring 6 out of the last two terms to obtain;

p(x)=21+6(4x+x^2)

We now add and subtract half the coefficient of x multiplied by a factor of 6 to obtain;

p(x)=21-6(2)^2+6(2)^2+6(4x+x^2)

We now factor 6 out of the last two terms to get;

p(x)=21-6\times 4+6((2)^2+4x+x^2)

p(x)=21-24+6((2)^2+4x+x^2)

The quadratic trinomial in the parenthesis is now a perfect square.

p(x)=-3+6(x+2)^2

Hence the vertex form of the polynomial is

p(x)=6(x+2)^2-3

Masja [62]
Hello!

If the digit to the right is less than 5, you drop it to the left one. If the digit is greater than 5, then you round it to the next decimal. So, here are the answers:

2.6 rounded = 3

1.8 rounded = 2

4.2 rounded = 4

3.3 rounded = 3
