One reason would be if you did not know the answer so you could do
4-5=x
another reason would be if the problem gave you the answer but not one of the things to get the answer

you have to find a common denominator between two and five which is 10. therefore making the number 2 into the fraction 20/10 and finding the common denominator of 1/5 makes it now 2/10. now divide 20 by 2 which gets you 10. and dividing 10 by 10 gets you. therefore making the new fraction 10/1 which is equal to 10. :)
