Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Price of 4 bowls of soup + 6 hamburgers = $30

4s + 6h = 30 ---------------------(I)

Price of 1 bowl of soup + 3 hamburgers = $ 12.75

s + 3h = 12.75 -------------------(II)

b) s = 12.75 - 3h

Substitute the value of s = 12.75 - 3h in equation (I)

4*(12.75 - 3h) + 6h = 30

4*12.75 - 4 *3h  + 6h = 30

51.00 - 12h + 6h = 30

51 - 6h = 30   {Now subtract 51 from both sides}

51 - 6h - 51 = 30 - 51

-6h = -21    {Now, divide both sides by (-6)}

-6h/-6 = -21/-6

h = 3.50

Price of one hamburger = $3.50

Substitute the value of h in equation (II)

s + 3 *3.50 = 12.75

s + 10.50 = 12.75   {Subtract 10.50 from both sides}

s + 10.50 - 10.50 = 12.75 - 10.50

s = 2.25

Price of one soup = $ 2.25

c) Price of 1 soup and 1 hamburger = 2.25 + 3.50

 Price of 1 soup and 1 hamburger = $ 5.75
