Standard form is y=mx+b

distribute the 2 throughout the parentheses, then subtract the 4 from both sides of the equation.

Standard form: ax + by = c

c = constant
ax = number attached to x with x variable
by = number attached to y with y variable

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First, distribute 2 to both x and -1

2(x) = 2x
2(-1) = -2

y + 4 = 2x - 2

Subtract 4 from both sides, and 2x

y + 4(-4) (-2x) = 2x (-2x) - 2 (-4)

y - 2x = -2 - 4

Set x in front of y and simplify -2 and -4

-2x + y = -6

-2x + y = -6 is your answer

hope this helps
