Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading east and the other west. The eastbound train travels 18 miles per hou

r faster than the westbound train. If the two trains are 540 miles apart after 3 hours, what is the rate of the eastbound train? Do not do any rounding.

99miles/ hour
take x as the speed of the westbound train.
so the distance between the train in an hour would be 2x+18. in 3 hours it would be 6x+54.
so 6x+54=540 hence 6x=540-54 and x=81. speed of eastbound train is x+18 hence it is 99.
I hv another alternative solution tell me if u want to know.

Heather had to collect insects for her biology project. She was able to collect 225 total insects. She collected 8 times as many
GREYUIT [131]

200 flying insects she catch for her project .

Step-by-step explanation:

We have , Heather had to collect insects for her biology project. She was able to collect 225 total insects. She collected 8 times as many insects that could fly as insects that couldn't fly. That means insects ratio of non-fly to fly is 1:8 .

There are a total of 225 insects , and for every one non fly insect there are 8 fly insects , Let x be the number of insects that can't fly so:

x + 8x = 225

⇒ x + 8x = 225

⇒ 9x = 225

⇒ \frac{9}{9}x = \frac{225}{9}

⇒ x = \frac{225}{9}

⇒ x = 25

So , Number of fly insects = 8x = 8(25) = 200 . ∴ 200 flying insects she catch for her project .

Please help! I don't know how to give brainliest haha but I'll give 5 stars :)
Luda [366]

Angle 4 is congruent to Angle 7 because of the theorem If 2 parallel lines are cut by a transversal then corresponding angles are congruent (Thats the reason for statement 2). The 3rd statement is correct if the reason for it is not supplementary angles but is angle addition postulate (The reason for the third one is angle addition postulate). Lastly, the answer isnt transitive property but is substitution propert because you substitute angle 7 with angle 4 (last reason is substitution).

Hope I helped

Answer:

2/7

Step-by-step explanation:

This is basically asking how many 7/10 's fit in 1/5. Or 1/5 divided by 7/10.

1/5 divided by 7/10 is the same as 1/5 times the reciprocal, 10/7. Therefore it is 1/5*10/7, or 10/35.

That simplifies to 2/7.
